I Copic Coloring- Is This Good Enough?

I seen recently that ICopic is having a design team call.
Now I like to think I am an OK crafter- but am I good enough to apply for I-Copic?
I always have wanted to be Copic certified and wish the classes were closer to my home.

I wrestle with idea of paying so much for the certification- (THIS IS MY OPINION)- I know a few people that have been certified and really can't color any better then a small child-but boldly use their certification link as a badge of experience.
Does that certification make them an expert?

I know many ladies that color like a dream- they have no certificate!

Here I am going to share a couple of my just completed cards-let me know what you think.

I found a great background  from a fun place called Ceremony Share...I just distressed a little to age it.
I stamped the suitcase set on vellum and colored-then I matted on white card stock.
Both images are pop- dotted
Tilda and suitcase stack from Magnolia.
Pink ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon of course
Distressed tag from Kraft Outlet.
Pink stick pins from Pizzazz Aplenty
The flowers are handmade after using my cricut to cut the petals - Punch for the leaves
Image colored with Copic markers
doily from my stash

This adorable image is from NiceCrane Designs- you know how good Ignacio is to me.
The multi paper is from Hobby Lobby
Ribbon and Pink Twine are from Really Reasonable Ribbon
My handmade flowers
Pink card stock-CTMH
Little ball ribbon from my stash???
Images colored with  pencils and orderless mineral spirits
I tried a new effect with the clouds- I really like how it turned out.

So what do you think about coloring and certification?

I will entering these in the following challenges:
I-Copic Challenge DT- Pink creation
The Corrosive Challenge- use pastel colors
The Crafty Pad Challenge- flowers
I Did It Creation- anything Goes
Magnolia Stamp Lovers Challenge- ribbon
Pile It On-Romantic and Fancy
Really Reasonable Ribbon Challenge- Use Punch  & Ribbon

  1. I think you did a great job! I just got my copics and haven't really played around with them that much. I have to agree that a lot of the "certified" ladies can't color worth a darn...while some of the uncertified ones color like a dream.

  8. These are beautiful! I honestly don't think you have to be "certified". I have seen some that are and think the same thing, it's like "really?" I am by no means any kind of coloring pro myself, I know it is hard to learn, but I say go for it, go ahead and try. If you don't at least try, you will probably wish you had. Your work is beautiful hun. :D

  17. wowza GF! that tilda is gorgeous and i like the other card too!

i soooooooooo wanted to be copic certified for the longest time until i found out from several people that they teach you more about the pen itself than the coloring. soooooo, not worth the $$$ for me anyway.

glad your little goodie arrived. hope your day was as spectacular as YOU.

    luv U.

  18. Personally, I think the whole certification thing is horse puckey! I think they want you to be certified to teach about the Copics, but like you said, the piece of paper doesn't mean you know what you are doing. Some people can have the knowledge and not be able to apply it, like so many things in life. Then there are others who don't have the certification on something, but do it really well.
I don't have Copics, just think they are so stinking expensive and you need a lot of colors to really use them they way they teach you to.
I think you did a great job on your cards, send them in and see if you make the team, won't know if you don't try, right?!?! I think you just have to rememeber that there will be a ton of people applying and if you by chance don't get onto the team, it really won't be a reflection on you at all. You do a beautiful job!

  20. I think that these are beautiful! Go for it! If you don't make it this time, go for with the next call. You can't win it if you aren't in it! I don't have Copic's, but I can't see that a piece of paper really makes much difference. Like everybody else I've seen some folks who color like a dream and don't have it, others who have the certification and my 5 yr old niece does a better job! (IMHO)

  22. I think you did an absolutely beautiful job on this card and you should definitely submit your application. The worst they can do is say "no". Of course, that is always a hard one to take, BUT - at least you tried - and I don't think they will tell you "no" because of lack of talent :) You definitely have that one in your corner. As for certifications - well - I totally agree. A certificate - of any kind - doesn't necessarily make you an expert lol
