Ooh La La Canvas

Today I have a fun project from Purple Cows using several tools to make a mixed media project.

Oh yea this is one fun design! It is a vintage distressed canvas with a corset image.

Encaustic Wax Color Sets-Metallic #5061

 Encaustic Wax Kit #5060

Gem Setting Kit #5071

Stamp Tip 6-Pack #5011

Melt Dual Temperature Craft Iron with 6 Tips #5050

Sizzle Dual Temperature Craft Iron and 6 Tips #5000

I started this project as a play time, just wanted to try out all the tools above and see what they did.
Let me tell you I had so much fun playing. I printed this freebie image from FREE Vintage Digital Stamps
on Kraft card stock. Then I used a shaped tip to accent the eyelets on the corset with Gold wax.
I changed the tips several times, and you can see a close up of a couple of them.
I used a smaller paddle and red wax to burn and stain all the edges-I love how it aged all the edges.
I also used a fine tip to clean up the edges on Grunge board hinges. Afterwards I inked with Tim Holtz vintage photo.
I then used the red wax to accent the top area of the corset and down the lacing.

The next steps I did were to add a glue and crackle medium to my canvas. Then I used a baby wipe and mixed a couple different acrylic paints and applied all over the canvas.
I decided to add vintage sewing patterns torn in pieces and held down with the glue and once again I used the heat tool to add a few clear wax areas.
Next I used the gem setter to accent the hinges-was the perfect size and embellishment to attach . Then I decided to add the star gems and a gem on top of all of them- they just took a slight touch of the heat tool and they were attached...aren't they beautiful and perfect as accents on my canvas?
All I had to do was add some flowers and leaves, metal accent for the corners ,and a fun printed ribbon to finish off my design.

So this is my first mixed media project and I am pretty pleased with how it came out-it was fun to play with the two heat tools and try out several of the tips to do various techniques...I know there will be more projects using these great tools.
These are the extra supplies I used to create with.

  3. Beautiful! I feel like my 'fun time' isn't nearly ambitious enough. It is very cool when you discover new tools. And I love how you put things together that we wouldn't normally think of--corset and music? Very cool.

  6. OH Dawn, that is just gorgeous. I was thinking about you today, I got my Mom's mothers day present and forgot to get a card....I thought I will make one....How....I thought about you and knew you could just whip one up! I think I will modify the one you just did, as you know I am no paper or card crafter, but I do have sheet music and I could download the image, thank you for the idea!!
